Our Teachers

Teachers recognize and respect each child for who s/he is, including each child’s cultural and ethnic heritage. Teachers guide children through their daily social interactions in order to build each child’s social-emotional competence and positive relationships with self and others, thereby encouraging their conscious, cooperative and productive participation as members of a community. We acknowledge the fundamental importance of each child’s social-emotional development as an essential component of our learning environment and curriculum. Teachers have been trained in and integrate the tools and expertise provided by the nationally recognized Conscious Discipline protocol to support children’s social-emotional development. We understand that young children need time and adult guidance to develop their social-emotional competence. We also recognize our responsibility to foster communication, cooperation and collaboration between home and school in ways that enhance a child’s social-emotional development.

Testimonials

At Little Earth, my children find the freedom and the courage to be their best selves. Here they are challenged, they are appreciated, and they are home. — Katie Chavez Cook, Little Earth parent

Philosophy

Little Earth School’s educational philosophy allows for every child to be treated as a valued individual with his/her own unique way of learning. The different strengths of each child are recognized and used as a way to inform our teaching and curriculum. Our school is a diverse community in which all members are respected. Every child is encouraged to share his/her experiences and traditions. We prepare our students to enter a diverse and ever-changing world.
As children acquire knowledge and skills, they are able to use what they have learned to understand multiple perspectives and to be self-reliant problem solvers.

Location

We are located in a residential are in Santa fe NM

About our program

As a small, independent school, Little Earth is dedicated to, and honors, young children. We are committed to maintaining an economically, ethnically and culturally diverse staff and student body that are reflective of the community in which we live. We provide a safe and nurturing, child-centered environment which is focused on individual development and building a harmonious and joyful community of learners. The school is an adobe building with a large outdoor learning environment in view of the mountain ranges surrounding Santa Fe. Children thrive in small, mixed-age groups with low student-teacher ratios. Little Earth school is licensed by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department. There has always been a strong family spirit at Little Earth. Our parents are dedicated and very involved in their children’s education. We enroll families, not just individual children. Away from school, children participate in an annual ski program, hikes and camping trips.

Admissions

Schedule a Tour. This can be parents only, child only, or both parents and child. However, as part of the process your child must visit at least once.

Fill out and return the Application for Enrollment and Release of Records Form (this can be done ahead of or on the same day as the visit if you’d like.)

Meet with the Little Earth School Director, Jill Hill, to talk about the school and your child and answer any questions you may have (it is easiest if this is done on the visiting day, but can be scheduled for a later date). When appropriate the school will arrange a meeting for the parents and the child’s prospective teacher.

The teacher/s meet with the Director and review the Application and discuss your child’s visit.

A decision is made about acceptance and a letter is mailed to you.

Tuition assistance can be applied for at this time.

Sign and return the contract supplied for you by the school in the acceptance letter, along with enrollment fees.
